Tlaloc is the ancient Aztec god who is responsible for rain and fertility. Thankfully, this year he gave abundant rains here in Tepoztlán. Our weekly hiking group (image above) encountered many cascades and very full rivers and streams that are normally dry beds. During the rainy season, this year from June through September, it poured almost every day, but not all day. This was a relief from the blistering heat we had for several months prior, during the dry season. And it promises us that water will be available during the following dry season.
In this article, I'll share our group's photos and videos to give you an idea of what it's like in this paradise.
Most of the areas where we hike, and also obtained the photos and video above, are in the woods. But below is a stream flowing through a more residential area called Santiago. It is a colonia at the edge of metropolitan Tepoztlán.
To round out our watery exploration, I've included a very short video of one of our more easily accessible hikes to The Deer Sanctuary.
Here is a blog showing year round water sites. And here is one showing the beautiful clouds during the rainy season. For a more general discussion of the climate in Tepoztlán, look here.
I hope you've enjoyed my brief photo foray celebrating the rainy season of 2024.
